Democracy, Human Rights & Peace Building

The Democracy, Human Rights and Peace Building program is one of our local to continental Africa programs where we engage local communities, youth, and students and university campus communities on issues pertaining to peace building, democracy, and human rights. Our local program provides educational opportunities through dialogues and conversation targeting ex-gang members and former incarcerated individuals to elevate their voice and leadership to contribute for peace building, community healing and violence prevention. 

Our program in Africa targets students and faculty in Africa with U.S. academics offering thematic and topical areas that are deemed essential to governance, democracy, human rights, peace and nation building.  The project enlarges the space of shared values between Africa and the United States, leading to increased understanding and strengthening of economic and cultural ties between the two countries, and advancing democracy, human rights, peace and prosperity. 

The purpose of the lecture series delivered through a speaker series is to empower young leaders helping them to build the capacity of democratic institutions and share democratic values and principles that govern human rights and administration of the rule of law in the United States and be able to apply the lessons learned in their country as educators, civil servants, and members of the civil society.
